January 18th, 2008
STEP Program 7-9pm. Result: 3 students, 3 parents
attended.
Wednesday February 20th
Lunar
Eclipse Open Observatory Event : 8:30pm - 12:00am.
Result: Well over 250 people attended.
Wednesday April 2
GM Week Solar Observing in front of the
Mueller
Center from 12-2 pm (If it is sunny. If not we may still have a
telescope and some sort of display). Result : It was sunny,
and one sunspot was visible. Several dozen people stopped by to take a
look.
Saturday April 12
Accepted Students Celebration Day:
There will be an "Activities Fair" in the Union 12-3pm. RAS members
will be present at a table to explain the club to new students, answer
questions and hopefully find new members. Result : ~15-20 students and
parents expressed interest in the club. It was very busy for 4 straight
hours.
Monday April 7 - Sunday April 13
Open Observatory Week. During open observatory
week, the observatory will be open every clear night from
8-10pm. This is a nearly moonless week: perfect for deep sky imaging.
If the observatory is open it will be posted on this website. Result:
it was cloudy for the later half of the week, but the observatory was
still open 5/7 days. A few people visited each day.
Friday April 18
Children's Night 7:30-10pm. Elementary and middle school
children and their parents are encouraged to attend. We will be doing
several fun educational activities and will be observing if it is clear
out. Result: About ten junior girl scouts visited and a dozen so so
other children and their parents. Many RAS members were present and
about a dozen RPI students visited as well.
Friday April 25th
Relay for Life "Star
Gazing Hour" 10-11pm. Weather permitting, the RAS will bring telescopes
down to the '87 Field for a special star gazing event. There will be
many other things going on: last year 1,500 people attended the Relay
for Life to raise record-setting amounts to fight cancer. Result:
